Short bioTeacher, researcher and extensionist in fruit crops. Born in Montevideo in 1974, she attended undergraduate and postgraduate studies at the University of the Republic, Uruguay. Mother of three children, she is currently in the final stages of her doctoral degree conducted jointly between Udelar and Utalca (Chile). Her work at University has been framed in the area of Fruit Ecophysiology (Faculty of Agronomy) maintaining a strong relationship with the productive sector and other academic groups inside and outside the University of the Republic. She is responsible and / or participant in the courses which involve deciduous fruit trees, both at undergraduate and postgraduate level of the Faculty of Agronomy. She also participates or is responsible for elective courses, professional or postgraduate updating such as: implantation of fruit crops, healthy eating and ecophysiology of woody species. Vivian Severino has led the institution's relationship with foreign teachers, researchers or extension agents such as: E. Giordani (Univ. Of Firenze, Italy); M. Ramonguillen (AQUIFRUIT, France), F. Herter (UFPel, Brasil) and J.A. Yuri (Utalca, Chile), carrying out different activities and courses. She has also directed or supervised more than 25 undergraduate and postgraduate thesis and student research initiation projects. Vivian Severino has been responsible for 3 research projects funded by ANII and CSIC. She was a member of scientific committee of the XIII International Pear Symposium and she is a member of Integrated Fruit Production Committee and the Technological Board of Deciduous Fruit Trees. General Research interestsHer main areas of study have been the ecophysiology of Apple, Olive, Citrus, Almond and Blueberry crops with a strong impact on production. Examples are: reproductive processes, dormancy and crop management with emphasis on aspects related to fruit quality. Visiting period at DAGRI: 25 October – 27 November 2019Aims and activities related to the visitVivian’s visit is within the framework of the agreement between the University of Florence (DAGRI) and the Universidad de la República, Uruguay. Research activities at DAGRI : : She will join researches on persimmon production and industry and other topics related to perennial horticulture under discussion.
